ADM-HEA Projects 2011-12

Proposal Information

ADM-HEA invited proposals for projects of 12 months duration running until March 2012. 

Applicants were asked to demonstrate that their project aims broadly align with the primary purpose of ADM-HEA: to enhance the student learning experience across the HE art, design and media sector with the objectives of developing and supporting learning and teaching. ADM-HEA encouraged and supported the development of new networks and partnerships.

Three broad themes for the projects were set down in the Higher Education Academy’s list of priorities for the work of Subject Centres during 2011/12:

  • Better teaching
  • Flexibility of learning
  • Graduates with impact

Project applicants were asked to consider ways in which the art, design and media disciplines might respond to these priorities at a disciplinary, departmental, institutional and regional level to implement positive change based on principles that are applicable across the art, design and media HE sector.

Better Teaching

This relates to the quality and professionalisation of teaching with the aim of promoting excellent teaching for all students, encompassing areas such as:

  • National Teaching and institutionally based fellowships

  • Assessment and feedback practices

  • Responses to the National Student Survey

  • Retention and progression

 

Flexibility of Learning

Responding to the changing economic and social conditions and the growing need for a diversity of models of learning:

  • HE in FE provision

  • Mature students

  • Part-time students

  • Distance, on-line or e-learning

  • Work placements

  • Interdisciplinarity

  • Knowledge and skills for industry

 

Graduates with Impact

Relating to the contribution graduates make to the economy and society and how they can help shape HE.

  • Personal Development Planning

  • Employability and entrepreneurship

  • Work experience/placements

  • Student engagement in HE

  • Awareness and practice of sustainable development

  • Postgraduate students

Project holders were encouraged to demonstrate proposals included a regional, collaborative focus. 

The Higher Education Academy also identified the following additional areas for focus and activity within Scotland and Wales:

Scotland

  • Quality enhancement including the Scottish Enhancement Themes “Graduates for the 21st Century: intergrating the Enhancement Themes”.

  • Educational Development

  • Internationalisation

  • Equality and Diversity

  • Curriculum and Programme Design


Wales

  • Quality enhancement including Welsh medium where appropriate

  • Supporting and championing teaching

  • Enhancing learning and teaching through technology

  • Education for Sustainable development and Global Citizenship (ESDGC)
