MeCCSA 2010 Conference - ADM-HEA media, communications and cultural studies prize

The Subject Centre (ADM-HEA) invites MeCCSA conference presenters to submit papers analysing key issues impacting on media, communications and cultural studies higher education, especially from a policy perspective.  The selected paper will be published in the ADM-HEA’s Networks magazine and on the website and the author will receive a £500 award at the 2010 MeCCSA conference.

Suggested subject matter

  • The impact of regional or national policy agendas and initiatives on media, communications and cultural studies higher education and especially on issues of media literacy, co-production of content, intellectual property rights, or learner online self-assessment.
  • Institutional strategies and their impact on media, communications and cultural studies higher education, especially with respect to governance issues and their implementation.
  • The outcomes of pedagogic research and implications for media, communications and cultural studies higher education
  • The impact of new technological developments on media, communications and cultural studies higher education.

Submissions
Abstracts of papers, no longer than 250 words, should be submitted online:  http://www.lse.ac.uk/collections/media@lse/MeCCSA/Default.htm
by 18th September 2009 for peer review to take place.  Please indicate ‘ADM-HEA’ prize.  The authors of those selected for presentation at the MeCCSA conference are invited to submit full papers (approx. 2,500-3,000 words) to Alison Crowe: a.d.crowe@brighton.ac.uk by 6th November  2009).  Full papers will be peer-assessed according to the following:

  • Identification of an issue that is relevant / timely to learning and teaching in media, communications and cultural studies
  • Analysis of the issue and impact on / implications for media, communications and cultural studies higher education
  • Originality of debate
  • Organisation of the paper


The award winning paper will be selected by a judging panel comprising ADM-HEA and MeCCSA representatives and guided by the assessment and feedback provided by the peer reviewers.

Papers should:

  • be written in English, and include the following information; title, author, institution(s), discipline(s), 4-6 keywords
  • use the Harvard referencing system
  • be proofread, however the selected essay will be subject to copy-editing for grammar, style and format
  • if you are including photographs please ensure that you have acquired all relevant permissions including student consent.  Do not embed images within the main text; please email them in JPEG format at 300 dpi or higher
