SECTOR ANNOUNCEMENTS
CPD Bursaries academic and support staff working with
international students
The University of Northampton is pleased to announce
the creation of three CPD bursaries funded by the Prime Minister’s Initiative
for International Education (PMI) for academic and support staff working with
international students. The bursaries will be offered to staff of both Higher
and Further Education institutions to help them to participate in the University
of Northampton’s ‘Postgraduate Certificate in Enhancing the International
Student Experience’ and then to cascade their knowledge to other staff within
their institutions or sectors. Each of the three bursaries will be valued at
£1,000, hence reducing the participant’s course fees to £800.
The course
has three modules and will be delivered between January 2010 and December 2010,
and aims to enable participants to develop as reflective practitioners in an
internationalised environment in Further and Higher Education. The PMI funded
awards will allow participants to take the lead within their own institutions
(and/or subject areas) in the introduction of CPD developments, for example
designing workshops and courses, for their colleagues.
The Postgraduate
Certificate course will be delivered by blended learning, requiring attendance
at one half-day workshop for each of the three modules, with all other materials
and activities provided in a Virtual Learning Environment.
Full details
of the course can be obtained from http://www.northampton.ac.uk/business 0800 358 2232 or email
study@northampton.ac.uk , and to apply for a bursary
candidates should - in addition to the completing the application form for the
course – produce a 1,000 word justification consisting of:
·
A description of their current activities involving international
students
· An outline of their intentions for further personal
development
· An indication of how they will seek to
disseminate their learning within their institution or sector.
Successful
candidates will be required to submit a short reflective evaluation of their
experiences for both UKCISA (in relation to the PMI) and the University of
Northampton at the end of the course.
Application for the bursaries must
