Effective Practice in Industrial Work Placement
The Physical Sciences Subject Centre has published ‘Effective Practice in Industrial Work Placement’. It includes sections on finding a placement, preparing the student, pastoral care and peer teaching. There are also sample plans of activities, student and tutor checklists and assessment forms.
Though written for the physical sciences sector there is still much in this publication which is applicable to all disciplines that make use of work placements.

TAG - Retention Show and Tell

The TAG Retention Show and Tell is a JISC funded event, which will showcase some examples of projects from UCLan, Bradford University and Leicester College, where technology is used to enhance retention.
The event is free and open to both academic and support staff within the HE / FE sector.
During the morning you will have the opportunity to learn about the projects showcased, with each session allowing plenty of time to discuss the projects.
The afternoon session, "what can these project do for me?" will be facilitated by JISC Programme Manager Lawrie Phipps. Lawrie will be introducing the JISC Building Capacities Project, which aims to provide funding to Institutions who wish to implement the outputs and recommendations of previously funded JISC projects.
The afternoon session will give you an opportunity to consider the retention issues within your institution or department and if the projects, or elements of the projects that have been presented today could be used to address these issues. There will be an opportunity to discuss working with the project teams and start outlining projects to apply for Building and Capacity funding.

Call for papers for the cltad 5th international conference
Challenging the curriculum: exploring the discipline boundaries in art, design and media

The 2010 cltad international conference will focus on curriculum design in art and design Higher Education meeting the challenges of changing times and demands. As old discipline structures are eroded, new liaisons are emerging. On one hand, art and design reach out and connect with other disciplines, influencing all aspects of society and how we live. On the other hand, creativity, which we have perhaps regarded as the prerogative of art and design, is increasingly being recognised as significant and central in every discipline. Building on the 2008 conference we want to explore where boundaries to disciplinary uniqueness are becoming blurred and where collaborations between the disciplines are being built, sometimes by intent and occasionally by chance.

7th Annual Enhancement Themes Conference:
Graduates for the 21st Century: Integrating the Enhancement Themes

The Enhancement Themes conference is an important event in the Scottish higher education calendar. The focus of this year's conference will be the current Scottish higher education Enhancement Theme, 'Graduates for the 21st Century: Integrating the Enhancement Themes'. As in previous years, it is expected to attract over 300 participants from Scotland and beyond to take part in a varied programme of plenary presentations, workshops and poster sessions, providing opportunities to participate in discussion and debate around the theme.
