CALL FOR
PAPERS/PARTICIPATION
ADM-HEA ANNOUNCEMENTS
Call for case studies on collaborative projects in HE,
which directly impact on the creative sector and economy by developing employee
skills and attributes.
This call is part of the Looking-Out project which aims
to identify Effective Engagements with Creative and Cultural
Enterprise
Looking-Out is a major research project being undertaken by
the Art Design Media Subject Centre (ADM-HEA) on behalf of the Department of
Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) as part of the government’s Creative Britain
strategy paper published in February 2008. The project focuses on levels of
engagement between Higher Education and the Creative and Cultural sector; the
research outcomes aim to inform future government policy in this
area.
An initial call for case studies for the project generated very
high numbers and a wide range of projects highlighting initiatives, programmes
and schemes offered jointly, or with significant support, from creative and
cultural businesses and organisations aimed at enhancing graduate attributes.
These include, placement schemes, incubation units, industry run projects and
career development schemes.
However, we also want to highlight examples
of collaborative projects aimed at enhancing, updating and developing the skills
and attributes of individuals within creative and cultural industry and
organisations.
This second call for case studies is intended to
highlight and broadcast examples of effective practice in collaboration or
partnership between further and higher education art, design and media
departments and creative and cultural businesses and organisations. We are
especially keen to hear about schemes that deliver continuing professional
development (CPD) to teachers and people already in work, joint research
projects, knowledge transfer and innovative collaboration that help grow
employment, raise productivity, deliver new products and services, increase
footfall and so on, in creative and cultural enterprise.
If you or your
colleagues are involved in a project, scheme or programme that you think may
fall into this category please contact Steve Mallinder s.w.mallinder@brighton.ac.uk.

SECTOR ANNOUNCEMENTS
HEFCE launches strategy
for technology-enhanced learning
On 26 March, HEFCE published 'Enhancing learning and
teaching through the use of technology - a revised approach to HEFCE's strategy
for e-learning' (HEFCE 2009/12). This revised approach follows an independent
review of the strategy and is designed to provide further support to higher
education institutions as they develop their own e-learning
strategies.
The new approach is intended to support institutions in
considering where they may wish to prioritise their technology-related
investment over the next few years, and to develop appropriate institutional
learning and teaching strategies. Support and guidance is available from JISC
and from the Higher Education Academy.
Findings from the review, which
was carried out with the support of the Higher Education Academy and JISC,
suggested the strategy has been useful in
motivating institutional activity,
but that some of the information has become outdated, given the current level of
maturity in e-learning in the sector.
In order to assist institutions in
achieving their strategic aims for enhancing learning and teaching through
technology, the document suggests a framework focusing on: pedagogy, curriculum
design and development; learning resources and environments; quality; and
research and evaluation.
Further information on how JISC is contributing
to this strategy can be found at:
