The Journal of Writing in Creative Practice
Issue 3 of Volume 1 is now available
This journal is produced by Writing-PAD. Now in it's 7th year, Writing-PAD - ‘Writing Purposefully in Art and Design’ - offers art and design institutions an arena in which to explore and develop the notion of ‘thinking through writing’ as a parallel to visual discourse in art and design practice. Writing PAD has not only brought together tutors from across the disciplines, but also from across roles: i.e. studio staff, theory staff, learning support, and learning and teaching (L&T) coordinators.

The keynote presentation for ADM-HEA's third learning and teaching day this summer will feature film director Ken Russell in discussion with Briggy Smale. Russell's long career in TV and film has involved both acclaim and controversy, his discussion with TV and Radio entertainment presenter Briggy Smale, will cover various aspects of his work and film in general.
The formal framework of the event will include presentations, workshops and networking opportunities, covering a broad spectrum of issues and concerns across the art, design and media sector with innovation and creativity as the overarching theme.
In addition, we will cover issues such as the ADM fellowships, visual plagiarism, creative practice, working across disciplines, the changing landscape of the art, design and media curriculum - and so much more!

Experiential Academy 2009

Immersive experiences provide excellent learning environments for seasoned professional educators to develop new ways of thinking about education and new practices informed by new ways of thinking. Experiential Academy comprises a 30 hour immersive experience for higher education teachers and educational developers.
It aims to:
1) create a community to share understandings and practices of experience-based learning
2) explore a number of dimensions of the student experience of learning
3) develop practical techniques to make classroom activities more experiential
4) facilitate new curriculum designs to promote experiential learning in your own teaching context

London Metropolitan University’s Learning & Teaching Conference
7 July 2009
The theme for this year's event is:
"Revitalising the HE experience through Blended Learning:discovering, sharing, connecting in our Knowledge Society".
In view of the wide interest generally in e-learning and blended learning, they are offering 20 external places for this event. The conference fee (including lunch and reception) for external delegates is £120.
The conference will feature a keynote address by an international figure in the field of blended learning (Professor Gilly Salmon), a choice of hands-on workshops and presentations sessions, a "Digital Resources Fair", and opportunities for networking during lunchtime and the reception.
In addition, on the day before there will be an online pre-conference workshop on "What is Blended Learning?".

All Ireland Symposium on Built Environment Education

Abstract Submission: 25 September 2009
This symposium is designed primarily to promote dialogue amongst the educational community of practice in the Built Environment discipline across the island of Ireland and encompassing Further Education and Higher Education. Whilst the symposium is entitled the All Ireland Symposium on Built Environment Education, they are very much encouraging participation from interested educators from anywhere in the world and indeed from any discipline. In search of ideas, they would particularly like to have input from colleagues in the Art, Design and Media disciplines.

“Learning Live”
The Association for Learning Development in Higher Education (ALDinHE) would like to invite your participation in the development of a series of student conference events entitled Learning Live, the first of which will take place in 2011/12. The focus will be on providing a live forum for student experiences of HE, using the format of conferences for and by undergraduate students, which will take place simultaneously in participating universities, and will be linked online.
They would be very grateful if you would pass this information on to academic programme leaders, or others whom you think may be particularly interested, and encourage them to contact ALDinHE over the next few months. They are at an early stage in developing this project, and would be happy to discuss collaboration with institutions and organisations such as those publishing student journals, or others who may wish to make awards. In the autumn of 2009 they will organise a steering group for the project drawn from those who have shown interest, to begin planning for the first event, which they anticipate will be held in the academic year 2010/11.
