In this competitive environment how do we maintain and develop the interconnections between departments, institutions, disciplines and nations that give strength, richness and diversity to art, design and media higher education? For Networks 16, to be published in January 2012, we invite feature articles that investigate interdisciplinary, international, and inter-institutional collaborations that enrich learning and teaching in our disciplines.

5th Learning and Teaching Day

The 5th Art, Design and Media Creative Learning and Teaching Day is this year being hosted by Ravensbourne . The day is designed for colleagues who are directly involved in learning and teaching in art, design and media: if you work in academic development, learning co-ordination or student support within art, design or media higher education this day is for you.
Presentations and workshops will provide opportunities to hear about current research, developments and innovations in art, design and media teaching and learning. Importantly, the event is a chance for colleagues to get together informally, share views, discuss opportunities and create future collaborative ventures.

CALL FOR PAPERS / PARTICIPATION
Varoom – illustration publication, issue 17
Deadline for submissions: 25 November 2011
Varoom illustration publication invites scholarly submissions for consideration for Varoom and VaroomLab online. Submissions will be subject to peer review. VaroomLab was established to provide a platform for exchange and discussion of ideas around the broad subject of illustration. Varoom – the illustration report is a unique publication in the UK existing as a vehicle for dissemination of some of this research. VaroomLab on line provides a wide forum to challenge and potentially expand research and hence provide maximum possible impact.

Media Literacy examples of practice survey
Deadline for responses: 25 November 2011
Media literacy, or the responsible and critical use of the new media environment, is a crucial issue. The Council of Europe is organising a think tank on the topic “Living together in a connected world” next month. The think tank is a first step towards a declaration, which shall address the consequences of developments in the new media environment and in particular for education.
