Sponsored
by the Getty Institute's Library the ATT indexes the Getty's extensive
holdings through the use of a structured vocabulary containing around
125,000 terms and other information about concepts. Terms in AAT may be
used to describe art, architecture, decorative arts, material culture,
and archival materials. The coverage of the AAT ranges from Antiquity
to the present, and the scope is global.

Technical
Abstracts is a comprehensive database of more than 100,000 abstracts
related to the preservation and conservation of material cultural
heritage, and is provided by the Getty Conservation Institute. An

AAH - Association of Art Historians
AAH
was formed in the UK in 1974 to promote the study of art history. It
represents the interests of art and design historians in all aspects of
the discipline, including art, design, architecture, photography, film
and other media, cultural studies, conservation and museum studies.

DHS - Design History Society
The
DHS works to consolidate design history as a distinct field of study
through its journal, newsletter, annual conference and other events. It
seeks to encourage the development of a strong design history community
within which awareness of new research can be heightened.

DRS - Design Research Society
The
DRS was founded in 1967 and is a multi-disciplinary international
learned society for the design research community. The Society supports
many kinds of activities that promote research and disseminates
research findings. Among these activities are digital discussion
forums, major research conferences with published proceedings,
journals, and a monthly emailed newsletter of research activities. It
has facilitated a design research network in 35 countries comprising of
members who maintain contact through the publications and activities of
the society. The DRS publishes a free electronic newsletter and the
international journal 'Design Studies'.

The Textiles Collection
The
collection is a research, learning and teaching resource based at
University for the Creative Arts. It contains 3,000 artefacts ranging
from Coptic textiles dating from 800-1,000 AD through to Scandanavian
furnishing fabrics from 1950 to 1990.

VADS (the Visual Arts Data Service)
VADS is the
online resource for visual
arts and is based at is based at the Farnham Campus of the University
College for the Creative Arts. It has provided services to the academic
community for 12 years
and has built up a considerable portfolio of visual art collections
comprising over 100,000 images that are freely available and copyright
cleared for use in learning, teaching and research in the UK.
