The Challenge of Learning Development

The 6th Learning Development in Higher Education Network (LDHEN) symposium, entitled “the Challenge of Learning Development”, will be held on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th April 2009, at Bournemouth University. The organisers are delighted to announce that they have a bigger and more varied programme than ever this year – with over 40 presentations/workshops, as well as posters, a labyrinth for reflective work and a graffiti wall. Do come along, join in and add your voice to the evolving conversation about learning development in the UK and Ireland.
The deadline for EARLYBIRD discounted bookings is 27th February! Go to www.aldinhe.ac.uk to book, and see relevant information about membership, accommodation etc. An outline conference programme is already on the site and full details of all events will be posted by the end of February at the latest.
The AGM of the Association for Learning Development in Higher Education (ALDinHE) will be held on the Monday evening, at which reports will be presented and elections will be held for membership of the Steering Group. Further details will be circulated nearer the time.
Keynote Speakers
- Dr Dennis Hayes, co-author with Kathryn Ecclestone of 'The Dangerous Rise of Therapeutic Education www.amazon.co.uk/Dangerous-Rise-Therapeutic-Education/dp/toc/0415397014 will open the conference with a talk about the history of 'study skills' in HE, and why we should take note of his concerns about 'therapeutic' approaches.
- Professor Alan Mortiboys, author of Teaching with Emotional Intelligence books.google.co.uk/books?id=mHqf78Dm6IAC will speak on the second day to give his perspective on the challenges of our work.
