Strategic Approaches to Disabled Student Engagement
- Location:
- University of Derby
- Date(s):
- 9 June 2010 10:00-15:45
A practical one-day event to
enhance your institution’s approach to student engagement by
introducing proven approaches to furthering the involvement of disabled
students in higher education.
This event forms the culmination of a joint Higher Education Academy
and Equality Challenge Unit project looking at the key area of
effective student engagement, and specifically how HEIs can ensure the
involvement of disabled students in institutional policy and practice.
Seven HEIs across England and Wales were chosen to participate in the
project and each institution formed cross-department teams drawn from a
range of university services including marketing, teaching and
learning, institutional governance, estates, staff and professional
student services. The project has culminated in a guidance document for
the sector which will be launched at the event. The guidance identifies
a range of effective strategies adopted by the participating
institutions and demonstrates a finding that involvement initiatives
are far more effective and meaningful when a range of institutional
service areas work together.
Focusing on strategic approaches to engaging disabled students, the
agenda promises a mix of keynote speakers, lessons from HEIs involved
in the project, focused workshops and a panel discussion.
The conference will be
of interest to staff working across all areas of higher education
institutions who want to ensure real and effective participation from
disabled students.
In particular, staff working in the following areas:
- Quality enhancement
- Student engagement and Student Experience
- Equality, diversity and disability
- Teaching and learning
- Marketing and communications
- Student services
- Estates
- Institutional governance and management.
The conference costs £52 including lunch. University of Derby is taking booking for this event.
